The majority of Tory voters want Boris Johnson to make a return to frontline politics, new polling suggests. The Ipsos survey found 60% said the ex-PM would make a better leader than Kemi Badenoch.

Mr Johnson was also backed by half of Reform leaders as the preferred choice to Mrs Badenoch. But should the former premier make a political comeback? Vote in our poll below and join the debate in the comments section.

It comes as Mr Johnson has faced ongoing rumours over a bombshell return following his ousting from No 10 in 2022.

He was forced out following Partygate and went on to quit as an MP after a “witch hunt” probe into the row.

But he has failed to completely rule out a comeback following his departure.

Meanwhile, the Tories are currently languishing in the polls as Nigel Farage‘s Reform UK surges.

Last year, Mr Johnson said he would re-enter public life if he felt he had “something to contribute”.

Speaking to students at Georgetown University in Washington, Mr Johnson said: “I think it’s unlikely in the short term. I think the only circumstances in which anybody should stand for election is if they have something to contribute.”

The charismatic 60-year-old led the Conservatives to a landslide victory in the 2019 general election.
