Hanwha Life’s key overseas subsidiaries posted a combined net profit of about $72.7m in the first half of 2026, equivalent to about 87% of their full-year profit of about $83.2m in 2025.
The South Korean insurer said the results were driven by steady earnings from Hanwha Life Vietnam, along with higher contributions from Indonesia’s Nobu Bank and US securities firm Velocity Clearing, which joined its portfolio last year.
The overseas businesses accounted for about 11% of Hanwha Life’s consolidated net profit of about $638.4m in the first half, making international operations an increasingly important source of earnings.
Hanwha Life has expanded its overseas portfolio beyond insurance into banking and securities through investments in businesses including Hanwha Life Vietnam, Hanwha Life Indonesia, Nobu Bank, Lippo General Insurance and Velocity Clearing.
Hanwha Life Vietnam reported net profit of about $22.6m in the first six months, up 23% from a year earlier.
The Vietnamese insurer benefited from improved insurance profit as it managed claims more effectively and reduced operating expenses.Â
Investment income also increased after the company allocated funds to higher-yielding deposits as local interest rates rose.
Hanwha Life Vietnam is also seeking to build its new business pipeline through additional bancassurance partnerships and the expansion of its sales operations in the second half of the year.
Nobu Bank and Velocity Clearing each recorded net profit of about $20.5m in the first half, giving the two businesses a combined contribution of about $40.9m.
Velocity Clearing, a US-based securities firm, benefited from higher interest income as US bond yields rose, as well as stronger investment performance amidst gains in the stock market, particularly in AI and semiconductor-related sectors.
Hanwha Life plans to focus on improving the profitability of its overseas insurance businesses in the second half, whilst seeking to increase earnings from Nobu Bank and Velocity Clearing.
The company plans to expand partnerships with local banks in Vietnam and Indonesia and build on the two financial businesses’ existing earnings base.
The company reported consolidated net profit of KRW904.5b in the first half, up 96% year on year. Standalone net profit rose 183.9% to about $360.1m, helped by higher insurance and investment profits.
