The sixth documentary in Nashville Public Television’s Aging Matters series examines broadly the pursuit of health and wellbeing as we age. What is it about age that changes how we understand health? Two thirds of Medicare beneficiaries live with more than one chronic disease. But health is more than healthcare. The things that matter most in life, are the same whether you are 65, 95, or 25 – community, meaningful relationships, and a sense of purpose.

Active Aging: Your Guide to Training a Booming Population

The Baby Boomer generation is quickly aging into retirement and senior status. The Boomers—those born between 1946 and 1964—are a very large group. There are more than 75 million Baby Boomers in the US. This aging population is much more likely to develop inactivityrelated diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Regular exercise can help stave off these conditions, and is crucial to maintaining health throughout the aging process. According to a study from JAMA Internal Medicine, however, only half of active Baby Boomers follow a regular schedule or exercise program. That’s where you come in.
There are millions of Baby Boomers in need of direction and support when it comes to exercise. This video training will teach you how to coach them, with a specific focus on the brain and body connection that can help combat aging. Erika Quest, Owner of Studio Q Pilates Conditioning, will guide you through the 5 types of aging—chronological, functional, biological, psychological and social—and teach you how to work with clients based on age and ability, so you can help them improve reaction time and overall selfefficacy in performing their activities of daily living (ADLs).

Active Aging and Silver Skills: Koen Schoors at TEDxGhent

Koen Schoors talks about his book ‘De Perfecte Storm’ (‘The perfect storm’), in which he explores the recent tempestuous events that shook our economic system to the core. Banks going bankrupt, the eurocrisis and the costs of an ageing society: these crises put together can lead to a ‘Perfect Storm’. How did it come to all this? Who is to blame? Is our welfare state threatened ? Koen Schoors tries to answer these questions and contemplates about possible new economical structures for Belgium and Europe.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, selforganized events that bring people together to share a TEDlike experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, selforganized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are selforganized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations)
