A Study in Contrast
Interior designer Libby Langdon knows how to make the most of a space. Here, she takes us through a space that gets a design boost from contrasting elements like painting walls a deep navy blue hue to juxtapose lighter frames and window treatments. Another trick? IELTS/TOEFL Writing:— in contrast vs. on the contrary
A common error people make in the IELTS and TOEFL writing section is mixing expressions. IN this video we look specifically at the expressions ‘in contrast’ and ‘on the contrary’.
These expressions are used as transitions to show a difference or an opposite, but they are not interchangeable. Common mistakes include mixing parts (in contrary, on the contrast), or using them inappropriately to mean something else (for example, in contrast when you are showing an opposite situation, or on the contrary to show a different approach or view).
Test graders may think you simply memorized these expressions and tried to force them into your writing if you do not use them correctly. In this video, you can see examples of correct usage, as well as other options.

9M113 Kornet- E Anti-Tank Guided Missile
The 9M133 Kornet, NATO reporting name AT14 Spriggan, export designation KornetE, is a modern Russian manportable antitank guided missile (ATGM) intended for use against main battle tanks. It was first introduced into service by the Russian army in 1998. The Kornet is among the most capable Russian ATGMs. It is not intended to fully replace previous systems, due to its high cost. The Kornet comes in variants with thermobaric warheads for use against soft targets. It was further developed into the 9M133 KornetEM, which has increased range, and an improved warhead. The Kornet has been widely exported and is produced under license in several countries. It was first used in combat in 2003 and has since been used in many conflicts.
What makes Kornet lethal is it’s long range In contrast with Western armies where the primary infantry ATGM has a relatively short range of about 2.5 kilometers, the Kornet is a longrange ATGM with a range of eight kilometers. Javelin has its own advantage where the operator is simply required to lock on, then launch the missile. In short, javelin has fire and forget capability while in the case of Kornet the operator continues guiding the missile after launch by keeping the reticle on the target by SACLOS guidance. Another plus point of Kornet is that it’s high kill probability at long range. The retention of the SACLOS mode of guidance is more of a result of the preferences and doctrine of the Russian military, rather than the lack of technology on the Russian arms complex. Russia can also go for fire and forget capability but SACLOS guidance has proven to give the operators more confidence in their weapon in certain situations due to their ability to continue guiding the missile after firing. In contrast fire and forget missile, being out of the loop after launch led to a decrease in confidence.
