The insurance industry from 24 to 28 August 2026 saw established insurers enter new markets, a new CEO appointment, and the roll-out of new insurance rules and reforms.

Prudential kicked off operations of its standalone health insurance business in India.

Prudential HCL Health Insurance Limited offers health insurance through digital tools and services. It is majority-owned by Prudential plc, with HCL Group holding a 30% stake. 

Allianz Trade in Asia-Pacific (APAC) announced Scott Munafò as its new CEO for its China-based business. Munafò, who joined Allianz Trade in 2015, is responsible for the company’s global commercial and distribution strategy and broker partnerships across multiple regions.

In Indonesia, new health insurance rules say that policyholders must pay 5% of each claim, capped at $16.9 (Rp300,000) for outpatient treatment and $169.1 (Rp3m) for inpatient treatment.

The new rules covering co-payments, deductibles, premium reviews and insurers’ medical and digital capabilities.

China’s non-motor insurance sector also saw new guidelines. Moody’s said that the new guidelines strengthen product governance, market conduct, and oversight of intermediaries.

However, improvements are likely to take longer to emerge than in the motor insurance sector, according to Moody’s Ratings.

In Singapore, Singlife said that it has extended Singlife Shield and Singlife Health Plus to eligible foreigners living, working and studying in the country.

A Redion and Ipsos survey revealed that majority or 86% of Singaporean travelers have travel insurance coverage, the highest globally—and that 51% intend to continue subscribing to travel insurance in the future.
